While there is no way to compensate for an atrocity, there is a way to transcend it, by making it a gift to others.

Welcome!

I’m Preston Hill, an Assistant Professor of Integrative Theology at Richmont Graduate University. I’m also a Clinical Pastoral Therapist in private practice, and Anglican priest-in-training.

As a practical theologian and practicing therapist, my research, teaching, and clinical work engages themes related to theology and mental health. My theological work has engaged the Reformed tradition, science-engaged theology, and topics including suffering, theodicy, atonement, trauma, and spirituality. I’ve especially remained interested in trauma and human flourishing.

Trauma is the wounding that remains in the aftermath of violence. Theology is the journey of finding and knowing God in the aftermath. I care deeply about the fragile intersection between God and trauma. I think of it as sacred space, as holy ground. I also find it to be a playful place of healing and transformation.

Life raises the most difficult questions about God and our world that it’s possible to ask. While the answers are not always clear, the questions are richly worth asking. Flourishing and joy are always possible.

I hope you’ll join me in the journey, to taste and see how life can flourish in the most unlikely places.
